Kazan Kremlin

Kazan Kremlin –i s a burg. Main landmarks of the Kremlin except
the burg itself, are the Annunciation Cathedral (XVI-XIX cc), the tower
of Soyembike (the first part of XVIII century), the church of Nikola Ratnyy (XVI-XIX cc), the Public offices (XVIII - XIX cc ), the Gubernatorial palace (middle of XIX century), Kul-Sharif mosque (the end of XX – beginning of XXI cc.).

Bilyarsk

Bilyarsk At 150 km from Kazan there is the capital
of the ancient state of Volzhsk Bulgar - Bilyar.
Near Bilyar there is an unusual place situated in the picturesque forest at the bottom of the mountain «Khuzhalar tavy». From under the mountain rides up a spring of crystal-clear water , turned into a shrine and called «The sacred saurce ». It is a religious center where faiths and customs of three religious: Paganism, Islam and Christianity coexist.

The Bolgars

The Bolgars At 140 km from Kazan on the left bank of the river Volga
from afar appears the silhouettes of white-stones ruins.
They are the remnants of Great Bolgars - one of the largest cities once of the strong state Volzhskaya Bulgariya. Today there is a big village Bolgars and a vast site – a monument of architecture of X-XV cc. It is a historical homeland of povolzhskiy tatars , known in Dar-al-Islam as “The North Mecca “ – the pilgrimage destination of belivers.

Yelabuga

At 215 km from Kazan on the river Kama lies one of the
most poetical and intellectual cities of Tatarstan – Yelabuga.
N.A. Durova, I.I. Shishkin, M.I. Tsvetayeva flourished here. The monument near Yelabuga “Chertovo” gorodishche –the remnants of the tribes strengthen settlement of the second half of the 1-st Millenium B.C.E. At 5 km away from the city on the river Toima there is a world-famous monument of the 1-st Millenium B.C.E., - Ananin cemetery which entitled the whole culture of the iron epoch.

Island–city Sviyazhsk

The unique fortress city was found by an edict of Ivan the Terrible
in 1551. As a unique integral historical-cultural territorial complex
of 16-20 centuries in 1990 Sviyazhsk was included in a new List of historical cities and population aggregates of the RF. In 1996 the city was included in preliminary List of the World Cultural Heritage UNESCO in six nominations: history , urban planning, architecture, icons and wall paintings , archeology , natural and antropogenic landscape. 21 monuments of Federal significance were registered on the island.

Kaban Lake

Kaban lake is a symbol of Kazan, with which numerous legends
are associated. Some legends tell about the tatar city Kityazh,
touched lake bottom after occupation of the city by russians. According to others – a water witch lives in the lake , which every year steals a little boy or a girl. Confirmation to one more legend from time to time happen to have the folks of the city fishing out from the lake separate elements of the numerous khan treasures. Kaban is a system of connected lakes with total length of about 8 km , the average width of 400 m, and depth of 10 m.

Raif Bogoroditskiy monastery

Once upon a time not far from the sacred mount Sinai
raised above similarly-named peninsula, bathed
its watersides by warm waters of the Red sea arised monastic settlement called Raif... Raif Bogoroditskiy monastery — is the largest operating men monastery of Kazan eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church, the place of temporary residence of one of the most important sacred thing –icon of Georgian Mother of God.

Blagoveshchensk cathedral

In Kremlin there is the first orthodox cathedral
in the Middle of Volga region - Blagoveshchensk cathedral,
which was constructed right after Kazan occupation.
It was built in the middle of XVI century by Pskovian masters.

Kul-Sharif mosque

Opened in 2005 Kul-Sharif mosque
has become the main mosque of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Kul-Sharif – it was the name of the main beneficiary of the Kazan khanate , muslim theologist and apostle. He died in 1552 during occupation of Kazan by Ivan the Terrible, in the mean time the cathedral mosque was burned to the ground. The cultic building in the Kazan Cremlin was reconstructed almost in five hundred years after destruction.

The tower of Soyembike

Within the territory of the fortress there is the famous Falling
Tower of the czaritza Soyembike.
